Some smol updates:
- Been slowly working on blogfeeds.net and hope to have an initial launch this weekend. In case you missed it, I have plans to make it a simple page explaining the concept of blog feeds (feed pages on blogs) as well as some helpful resources.
- PewDiePie arc is insane. De-googling, self hosting, and now minimalism
- Thank you to everyone who has sent emails in response to my initial post about resurrecting the old web! I’ve been contemplating how “comments” work in this vision of social media and the web, and I’m slowly aligning with Herman and his position on blog comments. Email seems to be so much more personal and effective for these kinds of conversations, but curious to hear your thoughts.
- My last thought is actually on the words “old web.” Lots of people reacted to those words in the blog post and had their own definitions of what it meant. Everyone agrees with the idea, but perhaps it’s wrong to compare or look backwards. Maybe a better term is “Open Web,” where there are no walled gardens. People own their identity and content, rather than being owned by a large corporate identity. While there are plenty of social protocols that try to solve those problems, I’m not sure they solve some of the harder issues such as endless feeds and dopamine addiction. Maybe they do and perhaps they will improve in the future, but that’s why I’m sticking with blog feeds for now.
